The gerbera was first discovered in 1884 in Barberton, South Africa and thereafter named after a German naturalist Traugott Gerber. However it was only with the breeding processes that began in England in 1890 that the quality of this flower was greatly improved. The flower was soon noticed by the Dutch growers and today, along with Columbia, they remain the primary distributors of this magnificent flower.

Upon receiving your flowers cut off the stems at a steep angle. Do not let the newly cut stems get dry and make sure to add stems into the water shortly afterwards.

If possible leave the flowers in a cool dark room thereafter for a couple of hours to gain as much strength and reach optimum condition.

As always, temperature is key and we would strongly recommend not placing your flowers anywhere near direct sunlight or in a particularly warm room.

How do you make cut gerberas last longer?
You should follow the following steps for the long life of Gerberas at your home. Step 1: First, place the Gerberas in lukewarm water to avoid dehydration.
Step 2: Set the vase in a cool room and clean it. Add a few inches of warm water with a floral preservative.
Step 3: Then use a very sharp pair of scissors to cut the ends of the stems' bottom about 1/2 inch at a 45-degree angle so that the stems don’t lay flat on the bottom of the vase and have an enlarged surface for absorption. When trimming the stems, cut them under water to reduce the risk of air entering the stems.
Step 4: To avoid bending over and wilting, use some strong clear drinking straws or floral wire for support.
Step 5: Remove any leaves that may have fallen beneath the water's surface. Bacteria develop and attach themselves to plant material in water, therefore the fewer you have, the better for your flowers. You should trim the stems as needed every several days.
Step 6: Place your gerbera in the vase and put them on display with bright but indirect sunlight. You should keep Gerberas away from high wind, air conditioners, heat sources, and fireplaces.
Step 7: Change the water at least every 2 to 3 days. Add flower food to the water and remove any wilting flowers or foliage.
How do you put gerberas in a vase?
Gerbera should be carefully placed in a vase. Before adding your gerberas, make sure your vase is thoroughly cleaned. They are especially vulnerable to germs clogging the stems, causing them to droop. To prepare your vase, try using bleach and hot water. The water should be replaced after every 2-3 days to prevent the growth of bacteria. Keep them in a cooler place. When gerberas are bound in floral foam, they survive longer in vases. If looked after well, gerberas have a vase life of around 7-10 days.
How do you stop gerberas from drooping in a vase?
You can stop Gerberas from drooping by considering the following points:
∙ You should improve the water conditions of Gerberas. Too much or too little water is a common cause of drooping or wilting.
∙ Watch for stem softening near the bottom, which causes drooping. Snip the softened part of the stem away to reinvigorate it.
∙ Keep cut daisies away from all fruits, which produce damaging ethylene gas.
How can you tell if a Gerbera is fresh?
Fresh Gerberas have strong, straight stems and firm petals. Before buying the gerberas, make sure that the leaves are healthy and deep green in colour. You should also check the undersides of the foliage for any indications of insects
You should avoid flowers with soft, limp stems and/or petals, brown stem tips, and brown centres, as well as flowers with more than half pollen, shed in the centre.
Where do gerberas grow best?

Do gerberas grow well in pots?
